Dangerous Structures

Last Modified March 05, 2013

Building Control is responsible for the control of dangerous structures to ensure public safety.

Building Act - Sections 77 and 78

After viewing the structure, our building control officer will make a decision on what action should be taken. If the danger is serious, this could include immediate removal by demolition, temporary support or closure. If the danger is not considered imminent, a public notice can be served for the owner to carry out remedial works within a stipulated period. If the conditions of the notice are not met, we can apply to the Magistrates Court for an order enforcing the work.

The whole process is aimed at protecting the public from risk of injury.

If you need to report a potentially dangerous structure contact Building Control

Welcome to Hertsmere Borough Council’s new website. In February this website will replace the existing www.hertsmere.gov.uk site as the best place to find information about Hertsmere and the services it offers.

Until then, you can explore the website by using this experimental trial (‘beta’) version.

PLEASE BE AWARE – this is a test website. It may contain inaccuracies or be misleading and links may not work. You should not use this site to contact us. Our old website remains the official website for Hertsmere until the end of February.
