A fridge freezer, bath, mattress, chairs and other pieces of fly-tipped furniture have been removed from areas in Bushey Heath following an operation by Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership.
Crew working at Environmental Action Day
Council and police officers joined forces at an (EAD) which covered the majority of Little Bushey Lane and surrounding roads. Officers from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Hertfordshire Highways were also present on the day.
The crew focused on areas behind shops and around garages where they also found 12 empty cans of cooking oil. All the rubbish was cleared on the spot by the council’s waste services and an investigation is underway to find out who is responsible for the fly-tipping.
Graffiti was also identified on the day on telephone boxes and lampposts and the responsible organisation will be contacted to take action.
A Spotlight event took place the following day outside the Co-op on High Street so local people could speak to officers in the partnership about any concerns they have about the area. Officers spoke to around 30 residents, giving them information and advice. The council's recycling officer was also there to promote recycling and fines for litter and dog fouling.
Councillor John Donne, Community Safety Portfolio Holder at Hertsmere Borough Council, said: "These events are all about us working with the community to make things better and encourage people to take pride in Hertsmere."
PC Gerard Handscombe from the Bushey Heath and Park Neighbourhood Team said: "Speeding and parking were also raised as concerns and we are working closely with the Highways Agency and Hertsmere Borough Council to address these issues."
A number of operations are carried out throughout the year, across the borough, to help improve the local environment. This is the second operation to take place in Bushey so far this year.
