If you want some tips on how to stay safe this Christmas, don't miss the Community Safety Partnership's trailer tour of the borough.
Community safety staff from the council will be joined by police community support officers, fire safety experts and staff from other partner organisations to offer top tips and practical advice on keeping your home and property safe and secure this festive season.
Councillor John Donne, Community Safety Portfolio Holder, said: "Traditionally more burglaries and other crime can take place at this time of year but there are things you can do like making sure your doors and windows are locked to reduce your chances of being targeted.
"Staff from Hertsmere's Community Safety Partnership (CSP) will be visiting different parts of the borough in the trailer to offer residents seasonal tips and information about staying safe and protecting themselves from being a victim of crime."
Information, freebies and discounted security equipment will be offered (subject to availability) at the following locations - just look out for the CSP trailer.
Monday 12 December, 10am to 12.30pm, at the Furzefield Centre, Mutton Lane, Potters Bar
Thursday 15 December, 3pm to 5pm, at Costco, Hartspring Lane, Bushey
Friday 16 December, 10.30am to 12pm, at Tesco, Mutton Lane, Potters Bar
Tuesday 20 December, 3pm to 5pm, outside shops in High Road, Bushey Heath
Top tips for staying safe this Christmas include:
- Keep presents out of sight in your home and don't leave any boxes or packaging from expensive gifts on show outside.
- Lock doors and windows - remember PVCu doors can only be locked by lifting the handle and using the key.
- Give your home a ‘lived-in look’ by using a timer for your lights when you’re out or away.
- Secure your rear garden by locking any gates - burglars often use garden tools to break in so make sure your tools are securely locked away.
- Register your valuables on www.immobilise.com
– it’s free, quick and easy and can help police return them to you if they are lost or stolen. - Don't leave burning candles unattended.
- Don't drink or take recreational drugs and drive.
