Council and police officers joined forces at an Environmental Action Day (EAD) on Friday, 18 June, and a Spotlight event the following day at Tesco in Mutton Lane.

The crew covered areas around the train station and golf course including parts of Darkes Lane and Mutton Lane.  Graffiti was identified in subways and paths and on utility boxes and rubbish was found dumped in service roads and by the railway.  The responsible organisation will be contacted to take action.

Councillor John Donne, Portfolio Holder for Community Safety, said: "We hold a number of action days throughout the year and they are a good way to identify issues like this which impact on the overall quality of an area.

"We then follow up these operations with Spotlight events where we go out in the community to give residents a chance to speak to us face-to-face about issues such as anti-social behaviour, graffiti, fly-tipping or street lighting.

"These events are all about us working with the community to make things better and encourage people to take pride in Hertsmere."

The Spotlight event on Saturday saw officers speak to around 50 residents, giving them leaflets and advice about their local area.  The council's recycling officer was also there offering information.

Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership is made up of representatives from Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, Hertfordshire Constabulary and Police Authority.
