Hertfordshire Works

Hertfordshire Works is the Economic Development partnership for the county and Hertsmere Borough Council is a partner.

Hertfordshire Works Board endorsed a new Economic Development Strategy for Hertfordshire at it’s meeting on the 30 June 2010.

The strategy is focused on a high-level economic vision and on the key objectives that emerged from the visioning workshop held in July: wider soundings were taking during September and October and the draft strategy was launched for formal consultation at the Hertfordshire Forward Conference held on the 6 November 2009. The formal consultation period lasted until the end of February.

The vision is: ‘By 2021, Hertfordshire will have a resilient and low carbon economy characterised by quality jobs, innovative and dynamic business, supported by a well skilled workforce and an entrepreneurial culture, where everyone has the opportunity to prosper and fulfil their ambitions'.

Our five key economic objectives are:-

    - Creating a vibrant, low carbon economy

    - Stimulating enterprise, innovation and inward investment

    - Developing a well skilled workforce for the future

    - Providing quality locations and infrastructure

    - Creating vibrant towns, vibrant communities

The Hertfordshire Recession Task Force was set up in December 2008 to examine the effects of the recession on Hertfordshire, explore appropriate local and regional actions and coordinate activities in response to adverse effects of the recession.

The main focus of the group since then has been to monitor progress on the Recession Pledge which the group had produced. The Pledge provided a framework for a range of local activities aimed at providing support and lessening the impact of the Recession and partners have adapted it to the needs of their local economy or activities.

Hertfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership proposal

In August 2010, Hertfordshire submitted a Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) proposal to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills.

The Hertfordshire LEP proposal is a joint partnership between business and local government (including Hertsmere Borough Council) building on the strong links that already exist within the county. The executive governance of the LEP will be a small Board, chaired by a prominent business leader and with equal representation from business and local government.
