Hertsmere sports teams celebrate in Council Chamber
Team Hertsmere came second overall in the recent Herts Youth Games, which saw teams from the other nine districts in the county compete against each other in different sporting events.
The footballer, who's in Arsenal's first team squad, came along to Wednesday's ceremony to congratulate the team, with Hertsmere's Mayor, Councillor Linda Silver. Most of the 100 people from Hertsmere who took part in the Games attended the event and were presented with certificates.
The council organises the team from Hertsmere and this year took part in all 10 different sports on the day with Hertsmere's football, table tennis and boccia teams finishing first.
Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "Some of the young people who took part in the Games hadn’t been involved at a competitive level before so they did really well. Second place is the best we've ever done so we wanted to do something special to say well done.
"A lot of the participants will now be joining local clubs as a result of being involved which is great news. Sport is a brilliant way for young people to be healthy and meet new friends."
