Local community groups and charities have benefited from the latest round of council cash.
A residents’ association, local hospice and sports clubs have all received funding from Hertsmere’s community grants scheme.
A community in Bushey have been given a cash boost to help them provide enhanced activities for local people, young and old. Phoenix Residents’ Association was given £500 to buy a PA system and laptop to use in their community centre for karaoke youth nights and regular community quizzes.
Members of Potters Bar Gymnastics Club will soon be ‘head over heels’ with their new safety matting which the council has granted £2,000 for, which will help ensure they meet safety standards.
The Peace Hospice, based in Watford but providing services in Hertsmere, received the maximum amount of £3,000 for medical equipment, specifically three portable syringe drivers which administer essential medication to help control symptoms in palliative care.
£3,000 also went to Shenley Village Cricket Club for equipment and Youth FM Radio to pay towards the set up and running costs of a short-term radio project which will benefit young people in Borehamwood.
Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "Local voluntary groups play a vital role in our communities and I hope this money will help them continue the great work that they do.
"Although times are tough, our grants scheme has funded lots of different groups from across the borough this year, which we hope has encouraged healthy, thriving communities."
