Nine members of staff from Hertsmere Borough Council have helped to raise £1500 for the national charity Help for Heroes.
The team from Legal and Democratic Services got friends and colleagues to sponsor them and completed a 14km walk which took place on a sunny Saturday in June, accompanied by children, partners and dogs.
They walked from Radlett to Hatfield in Hertfordshire and money was raised for the national charity as it is also the chosen charity of Hertsmere’s Mayor, Cllr Linda Silver. Help for Heroes raises money to support members of the Armed Forces who have been wounded in the service of their country.
Mayor Cllr Linda Silver said: "I am thrilled that staff supported my chosen charity in this way. I was delighted to be able to receive the cheque on behalf of Help the Heroes and thank everyone who took part. I know the money will be put to good use."
Cllr Silver chose Help for Heroes in memory of her late father who was a Colonel in the Royal Engineers.
Adding to the money raised from the walk was the company responsible for cleaning Hertsmere's offices, Ocean Contract Cleaning Ltd, which donated £170 and two of its managers Anne Dymock and Sharon Langley, who each gave £20. This boosted the total raised to around £1500.
Sharon said: "It is a fantastic cause and Ocean, as well as myself and Anne, were more than happy to support it and add to the money raised."
