The winning design came from Nathan Strugnell, aged seven, from Bushey Manor School. His snowman design was chosen from more than 100 drawings, paintings and collages submitted by schoolchildren throughout Hertsmere.

Nathan's design will be the official e-Christmas card used by the council. He receives a winning certificate, a £50 voucher, a large version of his card and a batch to give to family and friends.

Second place went to Jaina Patel, aged 7, from Hartsbourne School, Bushey Heath and third to Jack Scott, aged 9, from Potters Bar's Lochniver School. They receive a £30 and £20 voucher respectively in addition to a certificate, a large scale copy of their design and a batch of cards.

Cllr Sandra Parnell, Mayor of Hertsmere, said: "We were delighted with the response to our Christmas card competition.

"It was clear that Nathan, Jaina and Jack really put a lot of thought and effort into their designs and it was very difficult choosing the winners as we had over a 100 entries and the standard was extremely high. There was a fantastic level of talent shown and we were very impressed with the imaginative designs by our three winners.

"I would like to thank everyone who entered the competition - we thoroughly enjoyed looking at every card."

The design a Christmas card competition was open to all school children in the borough aged 11 or under.
