Potters Bar gets new shelter

Residents in Potters Bar can now look forward to using a new community shelter.

The shelter can be found in Furzefield Park, just off Mutton Lane, and is part the Hertsmere Community Spaces project to enhance local parks in the borough.

Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "The new structure is really unique. The whole community will be able to use the new shelter - when I visited it, a local resident was already making the most of it and sitting in the sun, throwing a ball for his dog. I hope residents will welcome the new shelter to their local park and use it whenever possible."

The shelter is made from light coloured wood with red metal detail.

Hertsmere Borough Council used lottery funding to commission arts and environment organisation Green Heart Partnership (GHP) and design company Superblue to create the unique shelters - one each in Potters Bar, Bushey and Radlett.

Hertsmere was awarded £50,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and £10,500 from Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership to pay for the three innovative and eye-catching community shelters to be used by the whole community.

Costing around £20,000 each, the money was used to consult, design and build the shelters.
