Planning

Planning and Building Control are responsible for managing the development process, balancing the need to promote housing, employment and other development while protecting the natural and built environment.

It is important to remember that building regulation requirements are different from planning permission requirements and one or both types of consent may be required for a particular building or structure.

The council also has a responsibility to protect statutory and local buildings of special historical or architectural importance, and protecting and enhancing our built environment.
