National referendum result 2011

The national referendum asked whether the voting system for electing Members of Parliament should change.

The question that appeared on the ballot paper was:

"At present, the UK uses the 'first past the post' system to elect MPs to the House of Commons.  Should the 'alternative vote' system be used instead?"

Hertsmere’s result was:

The turnout was 40%.
