Elections - Proxy Votes
You are welcome to apply for a proxy application form if you are unable to go to your Polling Station on election day. A proxy is someone who will go to the polling station and vote with your authority on your behalf.
You can pick up a Proxy application form at any of our Customer Service Points.
Complete the application form if you wish to apply for a proxy.
The deadline for receipt of proxy applications is six working days before an election. (This deadline may change depending on the outcome of the new Electoral Administration Bill).
- If your work frequently takes you overseas.
- If you will be on holiday when the election is taking place.
- If you are working during all hours of voting, for example as a member of the election staff.
Additional requirements for applications
Indefinite and fixed period proxy applications (except from registered blind persons or persons receiving the higher rate of mobility allowabce) must be attested by:
- a registered medical practitioner
- the head of a care home
- The applicant's employer or, if self-employed. by a person who is aged 18 or over who knows the applicant and is not related to him/her, or
- the director or tutor of the aplicant's course.
Proxy applications for a particular election must also give a reason why the applicant's circumstances prevent him/her attending the polling station.
