The Mayor welcomes invitations to attend events held by local organisations

Councillor Sandra Parnell

Councillor Sandra Parnell was born on the 15th May 1938 in Salford, Manchester.  She was married for nearly 52 years to Leslie and has two children and six grandchildren.

At 16, Sandra wanted to leave school to become a professional ice skater with the Tom Arnold “Ice Circus”.  But after meeting Leslie, Sandra decided to train to become a hairdresser.

At 19, they moved to Edgware where Sandra opened her own hair salon.  They also ran a youth club and, as a result of many years of fundraising, the Belmont Synagogue was built.

In 1973, Sandra and Leslie moved to Borehamwood and started campaigning for the Green Belt Society and Woodcock Hill Open Space.

In May 2002, Sandra entered politics and became the first Conservative Councillor in Borehamwood for 26 years.

Sandra’s hobbies are tennis and bridge.

During her mayoral year, Councillor Parnell will be supporting the Alzheimers Society and The British Heart Foundation.
