60+ club gets a helping hand

A community group in Potters Bar has benefited from council cash, thanks to four local councillors.

The 60+ club based at the Wyllyotts Centre, Darkes Lane, Potters Bar has received a total of £1,347 from the Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) to buy an industrial freezer and a set of knives to be used at their lunch club.

Cllr Peter Knell (Potters Bar Furzefield) coordinated the funding application. He said: “Many local people attend the 60+ club on a regular basis to have lunch and meet with friends. The group’s current freezer is past its best and needs to be replaced by a more efficient piece of equipment. In the current financial climate it can be difficult for voluntary organisations to upgrade or buy new equipment, so we were delighted to be able to help out."

Cllr Knell, Cllr Tugay Sevincli (Potters Bar Oakmere) and Potters Bar Furzefield councillors Martin Worster and Ron Morris allocated £447, £300, £300 and £300 respectively to the 60+ club, making a total of £1,347.

Local people can make a bid for cash to improve the area they live in by using WIIS, which allows each Hertsmere councillor to spend £1,000 to support local projects and schemes.
