Electoral register published

Hertsmere’s revised electoral register has been published and we’re pleased to say that 92% of households responded to the annual canvass, a significant increase from last year when 87% of properties responded.

Every autumn councils across the country send out voter registration forms to their residents for them to complete and return – this is called the annual canvass and is a legal process required each year.

Jo Bateman, Hertsmere’s Principal Electoral Services Officer, explained: "This year we altered the way we carried out the canvass and it seems to have paid off.  Usually we send the forms and reminders solely out by post, but this time, after the second reminder, we sent staff round to the properties that we hadn’t heard from, to encourage the occupants to respond."

This means that Hertsmere's electorate stands at 73,542.

Jo added: "It’s important that you register to vote every year.  Although most elections take place in May, they can be called at any time, as can referendums, so it’s important to be ready if you want to have your say."

Rolling registration has reopened so if you haven't registered or if you have moved house since you completed the form you can register now – call 020 8207 7481.
