Enhancing the environment

Outdoor exercise equipment is to be installed in Parkfields, Elstree, thanks to the latest round of Ward Initiative money.

Councillors Morris Bright and Derrick Gunasekera have each allocated their whole £2,000 budget for this year for the equipment.

Cllr Bright, Leader of the Council, said: "I think the outdoor equipment is a great idea and can be used by people of all ages. What better way to exercise than outside in the fresh air in one of our beautiful parks."

Bushey’s Mary Forsdyke Garden will benefit from a birdbath, courtesy of Bushey Heath councillors Brenda Batten and Paul Morris.

Cllr Morris said: "I hope the birdbath will attract lots of wildlife for people to enjoy and enhance the natural environment."

The 18th Bushey and Oxhey Scout Group also benefited from £400 for camping equipment, thanks to Cllr Batten, who commented: "Local scout groups provide such valuable opportunities for young people and can really help with lots of life skills. I was delighted to be able to support this."

Local people can make a bid for cash to improve the area they live in by using the council's WIIS (Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme), which allows each Hertsmere councillor to spend £2,000 on projects within their ward.
