A young people’s football club will be able to buy a range of new equipment, thanks to three Bushey councillors.
Bushey and Oxhey Football Club has received a total of £500 from Hertsmere Borough Council’s Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) to buy new kit for 30 extra players, training and match day balls as well as other essential equipment such as water bottles and first aid kits.
Cllr Pervez Choudhury (Bushey St James) coordinated the funding application. He said: “The extra equipment will allow the club to expand to support three more teams. Playing football is a great way for young people to keep fit as well as develop their personal confidence and team working skills. We were happy to be able to provide the funding.”
Cllr Choudhury, Cllr Denise Kieran (Bushey St James) and Cllr Jane West (Bushey North) allocated £200, £150 and £150 respectively from their WIIS allocations.
Local people can make a bid for cash to improve the area they live in by using WIIS, which allows each Hertsmere councillor to spend £1,000 to support local projects and schemes.
