On a roll

Three councillors have clubbed together to give Borehamwood Youth Football Club a much-needed boost.

Cllrs Ernie Butler, Ann Harrison and Di Hoeksma have each donated £500 of their Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) money to the club to go towards buying a new roller mower.

Cllr Di Hoeksma explained: "The youth football club provides a much-needed outlet for young people in the area and we were all very happy to put some of our money together to support this application."

Graham Wallis, treasurer of the club, said: "This will make a real difference to us. We play football here every Sunday morning and involve more than 200 girls and boys. Our old mower was running out of life and made maintaining the pitch difficult. The new mower will make a very big difference to the quality of the pitch and hopefully even our games!"

Local people can make a bid for cash to improve the area they live in by using WIIS, which allows each Hertsmere councillor to spend £2,000 on projects within their ward.

While this year's funding is coming to an end, new allocations start again in April. If you would like to have a scheme considered, contact your local councillor.
