Register your vote

Residents in Hertsmere can expect to see a voter registration form coming through their letterbox soon.
Hertsmere Borough Council will be sending out voter registration forms, otherwise known as annual canvas forms, to all households in the borough.
Everyone is required to complete this and update the details of everyone living in their property who is eligible to vote and return it to us as soon as possible.
Jo Bateman, Hertsmere’s Electoral Services Officer, said: “It is important that you register to vote every year. If you fail to send back your form this could result in you being removed from the electoral register – meaning you would not be eligible to vote in the forthcoming elections. Not being included on the Electoral Register can also make it difficult for you to get credit for loans, mortgages or credit cards among other things. I would encourage all residents to complete and send back the registration document at their earliest convenience.”
The annual canvass takes place every autumn. You can only vote if your name appears in the register of electors and you are aged 18 or over on polling day. Registering to vote means you can have your say on what happens in your borough – if you don’t register you will miss out on this opportunity.
On your electoral registration form you can opt to have your details excluded from the edited register. This will mean your details can not be bought by individuals and commercial organisations.
Voting registration forms should be arriving at households across Hertsmere around 20 August.
