Civic awards presented

Four organisations from across the borough have been recognised for their contribution to the community.
On Saturday (5 April) Mayor Councillor Martin Saunders presented civic awards to Bushey Festival Committee; the 1st Elstree and Borehamwood Scouts; the Barracuda swimming club in Potters Bar and Radlett Cricket Club.
Certificates were presented at the annual civic awards dinner, this year held at the Hilton National in Bushey in front of more than 250 guests, many of whom were from the voluntary sector.
Bushey Festival Committee
Rewarded for its 25th year and for the organisation of a varied programme of festival culture and fun. Their immediate past chairman Christopher Kane accepted the award on behalf of the committee (below).

1st Elstree and Borehamwood Scouts group
Leader of the group Paul Norman was invited to receive the award on behalf of all the scouting and guiding groups within the borough as a recognition of the valuable and rewarding work they undertake with young people (below). The 1st Elstree and Borehamwood celebrated its 100th anniversary this year.

The Barracuda Swimming Club in Potters Bar
This swimming group, which helps disabled of all ages to enjoy being in the water and to swim, celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Gillian Harris accepted the award on behalf of the club's chairman David Miller (below).
Radlett Cricket Club
Radlett Cricket Club was congratulated for reaching 120 years. The club can be teaching as many as 250 children every Sunday and has links with schools across the borough. Its president Philip Marsh received the award on behalf of the club (below).

The Mayor also congratulated John and Joan Franklin for their contribution to the borough. They were at the event on the evening celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.
