Calling all budding artists: Fancy seeing your winter wonderland on the council's Christmas card?

Following last year's success, Hertsmere Borough Council is organising its second Christmas card competition.

We are inviting young people up to the age of 11 to design the front cover of the council's corporate Christmas card, which will be sent to our partner agencies.  The winning design will be reproduced by a designer and be replicated on our website and also sent as an electronic greetings card.

A panel of judges, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Hertsmere, will choose the winning entry.  The winner will receive a certificate and a £50 gift voucher.  Second and third place winners will also receive a runners-up certificate and a £30 and £20 gift voucher respectively.  All the winners will be invited to a presentation with the Mayor and Mayoress at the Civic Offices in Borehamwood which local media will also be invited to.

Mayor of Hertsmere Councillor Martin Saunders said: "We were overwhelmed by the response last year and are looking forward to seeing the designs for this year's Christmas card.  We hope young people are excited by this opportunity and encourage them to show their creativity!"

The rules for the competition are:

- Children must be aged 11 or under
- The design should be no more than A4 in size (29.5cm by 21cm)
- It can be produced in pencil, pen and ink, paints or crayons
- It should be one-dimensional
- Entries must include the full name, address, telephone number and age of the artist
- The closing date for entries is Monday 8 October
