The Mayor's Charity Football Festival was hosted at Arsenal Training Ground in Shenley last Wednesday evening (7 May). Teams from Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Highways, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertsmere Leisure Trust, John O'Conners and T-Mobile took part as well as the Mayor's All Star Team which included two of his sons, friends from Radlett and old school friends.

Hertsmere Leisure fought to the final but were beaten by two goals to nil by Herts Highways who left victorious.

Each team raised sponsorship to take part in the tournament and an Arsenal shirt signed by all the Arsenal players was auctioned after play.

This is the first event of its kind but it is hoped it will become an annual event.

Mayor of Hertsmere, Mr Martin Saunders, said: "It was a wonderful event and it was lovely to see so many teams from local authorities and companies taking part.

"The final figure raised will be over £2,000 which will be donated to Asthma UK along with other monies raised during my year as mayor."
