Hertsmere's new Mayor for 2007/2008 is Cllr Martin Saunders, who was elected at the council meeting on May 21.

Cllr Saunders and his wife Jane took up their new roles immediately.

Outgoing incumbent Councillor Martin Heywood presented Cllr Saunders with his chain of office at the ceremony held at Civic Offices in Borehamwood.

Cllr Martin Saunders represents Aldenham West and has been a councillor for Hertsmere since 1999.  He is also a member of Hertfordshire County Council.

He was Deputy Mayor in 2006/2007.

“My mayoral charities for this year will be Asthma UK and The Purcell School."

At the meeting, Councillor Sandra Parnell was elected Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere. She has been a councillor for the Hillside ward since 2002.  She is married to Leslie.
