The Mayorall chains have been handed over to Councillor Sandra Parnell who becomes Hertsmere's Mayor for the year.

Councillor Parnell, who finishes her term as Deputy Mayor, was welcomed at the annual council meeting last night, Wednesday 21 May.

The new deputy Mayor was also welcomed - Councillor Eddie Roach.

Councillor Parnell takes the helm from Martin Saunders. Mr Saunders, who stood down as a councillor in May, raised around £12,000 during his term of office for his two chosen charities - Asthma UK and The Purcell School, Bushey.

Councillor Parnell's chosen charities are the British Heart Foundation and the Alzheimer's Society.

Councillor Parnell said: "I am delighted that I have been chosen as Mayor for the coming year. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as deputy mayor and been privileged to meet some fascinating people at the many and varied events I have been invited to. Being a Mayor is a huge honour and I look forward to a busy year ahead and to meeting many more people in the community."
