New pond will make a splash

A pond, new benches and kitchen equipment are the latest items which have been secured through local councillors.

Councillor Linda Silver, of Bushey Park ward, is spending the majority of her allocation from the Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS) to replace two benches in King George V Park, Bushey and to buy a third.

Councillor Silver commented: "Some of the members of the Friends of Bushey Park had pointed out the problem of the old and uncomfortable benches and because the park is so well used by people of all ages I felt this was a good use of the money.  I look forward to seeing them in situ when the weather improves."

The 79th Bushey and Oxhey Scout troop will benefit from replacement table and benches for camping, thanks to Cllr Steve O’Brien, of Bushey North ward, while Fishers Field nature reserve is to get a new pond, thanks to Cllr Roger Kutchinsky, also of Bushey North ward.

“Fishers Field nature reserve is used by many people and I was happy to support the creation of a pond, which will provide an additional habitat for wildlife," explained Cllr Kutchinsky. "The Friends of Fishers Field have agreed to maintain the pond once it has been established so there will be no ongoing maintenance cost required from the borough."

Potters Bar’s Wyllyotts Centre 60 plus scheme will also benefit - they get new kitchen equipment, thanks to a joint nomination from Councillors Peter Knell and Christine Calcutt, both of Potters Bar Furzefield ward.

Local people can make a bid for cash to improve the area they live in by using WIIS, which allows each Hertsmere councillor to spend £2,000 on projects within their ward.
