Thanks for your support

A week ago many roads were thick with snow and pavements difficult to negotiate. But despite the poor weather last week, our waste crews and street cleaners were out every day delivering a service.

By now most households will have received a collection and crews were out again on Saturday to complete all but a couple of locations, whose access was blocked.

This week it is brown/green bin and blue box collections and crews will clear any extra green waste and paper presented to compensate for any work missed a fortnight ago. This should then put us back on track for collections as normal next week.

Cllr Jean Heywood, portfolio holder for environment, said: "We are confident that the majority of households will have received a collection as we have been out every day, and wherever possible were re-visiting streets that may have been impassable first time round.

“If some homes have been missed, we are sorry as we have worked really hard to minimise any disruption and we know it can be frustrating if you have not received a collection when you expected it.

"We did get a number of emails from the public thanking us for going out despite the terrible conditions and we do appreciate that as sometimes it can be too easy to criticise and this kind of work is not easy in such conditions.

“This week we will also look sympathetically at any requests from residents who have struggled to cope with the changes due to the weather conditions over the recent period and we thank residents for their patience."
