Information on what to do if you are holding an event

Hertsmere Borough Council Safety Advisory Team  (SAT)

An older couple dance together

Hertsmere's SAT aims to:

  • assist event organisers with the safety of their event by highlighting sources of information/advice and sharing information with Multi-Agency partners to assist in Contingency Planning

Our objectives are:

  • to highlight, upon request, and where possible, sources of potential further advice to event organisers
  • to provide a local multi-agency single point of contact for event organisers to share information regarding events
  • to provide a mechanism to receive, share and disseminate information and intelligence amongst SAT partners and other relevant agencies
  • to evaluate potential impacts of an event on each agency and the wider community
  • to use information to inform and develop muti-agency contingency planning

The Team consists of Officers from Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, East of England Ambulance Service, Hertfordshire Highways, Hertfordshire County Council Emergency Planning Team and the Health and Safety Executive.

The Emergency Services and Local Authorities need to know when and what events are to take place in Hertsmere, to ensure community safety during the event period.

Below is a link to the Event Notification Form. This allows organisers of events to notify the Safety Advisory Team of any planned events.  Please complete the form and return to the address on the form, the form will then be considered by members of the team and if deemed necessary you may be asked to attend a meeting to discuss your proposed event in more detail.

As the organiser of any event, no matter how big or small, you'll have many different elements to consider in the planning stage.  The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has produced a guide to health safety and welfare at music and similar events (sometimes known as The Purple Guide)

The Council strongly advises you go through these guides when planning an event, and we hope your event is a big success!

If alcohol is being supplied or regulated entertainment is taking place then a Temporary Event Notice (TEN), or a Premise Licence under the Licensing Act 2003 is required.
