Christmas card and tree recycling

You might not have even got the Christmas decs up yet, but when there are more pine needles on the floor than on your Christmas tree and the festive cards are starting to look cluttered, remember to give your gift to the environment and recycle.

Cllr Jean Heywood, portfolio holder for the environment, explained: "Many people are involved in recycling throughout the year and at Christmas time we all have extra waste so we are trying to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle all those extras. So when all the celebrations are over, please spare a few minutes to recycle all you can."

So make a note of these dates now and get involved.

From January:

You can take your Christmas cards to one of the major supermarkets – including Asda, Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and TK Maxx during the whole of January. Or drop them off at:

- Reception at Hertsmere Borough Council Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood
- The bring banks at Newberries car park in Radlett; Andrews Close, Shenley; Furzefield car park in Potters Bar; Kemp Place car park in Bushey or Costco car park in Bushey.

And you can take your real Christmas tree to have it recycled for free:
- Thursday 5 January: Kemp Place car park, off High Street, Bushey
- Friday 6 January: The Venue Leisure Centre car park, Elstree Way, Borehamwood
- Saturday 7 January: Oakmere car park, High Street, Potters Bar
- Sunday 8 January: Newberries car park, Radlett

Christmas tree recycling is between 11am and 2pm. Please ensure all tinsel and decorations are removed.
