An outdoor gym will soon be a new feature of The Moatfield in Bushey thanks to a special grant to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
The Fields in Trust has awarded the council £3,000 to improve the green space and the outdoor gym equipment will be installed in time for the Jubilee in June.
The Moatfield received the money after the council successfully nominated it for the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge, which opened up the funding opportunity and also means the space will be preserved for future generations to use and enjoy forever.
With Prince William's patronage and the support of principal partner Asda, the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge is a living legacy programme to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee as well as the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Councillor Jean Heywood, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: "We’re delighted to be awarded this money by the trust as part of their marking of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"The grant means we can invest further in The Moatfield by installing outdoor gym equipment for park users of all ages and abilities. The addition to the park will surely enhance the green space, one of the best of its kind in the area."
Alison Moore-Gwyn, Chief Executive of Fields in Trust, said: "Saving outdoor space is crucial for the health and enjoyment of communities everywhere and I am delighted that Hertsmere Borough Council is embracing the opportunity presented by the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge to protect and improve Moatfield Recreation Ground."
