Save money, cut energy use, keep warm and save the planet

Shoppers will be able to pick up a lot more than fruit and veg when they take a trip to Tesco in Borehamwood later this month.

Sue Hardy, Hertsmere's Energy Conservation Officer, together with a representative from the Herts and Essex Energy Partnership (HEEP) will be on hand on Tuesday 20 October to offer advice and information on a range of money-saving schemes and grants, from condensing boilers to solar panels. Free energy-saving light bulbs will also be handed out.

Fifteen councils in Hertfordshire and Essex have won funds to support energy efficiency initiatives for their residents over the next two years. Through the HEEP scheme residents will be able to take advantage of a range of discounts and interest free loans.

In order to help owner-occupiers over 70-years-old to keep warm and save money on fuel bills, the HEEP scheme is offering FREE cavity wall and loft insulation, subject to survey. Call 0800 980 6026 to register or visit the stand on Tuesday 20 October.

Those owner-occupiers who do not qualify for free insulation will be able to gain information on a range of grants available including a discount insulation scheme, where substantial discounts can be obtained for cavity wall and loft insulation.  There are also interest free loans available for renewables such as solar panels.

For residents in receipt of certain income related benefits, information will be available on the Warm Front Government-funded initiative, which aims to make homes warmer and help save money on energy bills. To check eligibility call free on 0800 316 6011 or come along on the day.

For more information on any of these schemes please call Sue Hardy, Hertsmere's Energy Conservation Officer, on 020 8207 7506, email encos@hertsmere.gov.uk or call the Herts and Essex Energy Partnership on 0800 980 6026.

The stand will be in the entrance to Tesco from 10am to 4pm.
