Plans are well underway to restore the Bushey Rose Garden to its former glory.

With funding being sought from the Heritage Lottery Fund, an announcement is expected in October 2006 and if the application is successful, work should begin in summer 2007.

A steering group of local Councillors, representatives from the Bushey Museum and Art Gallery, Bushey Forum and Friends of the Rose Garden has been set up to take the project forward.

Proposals include restoring all the features in the garden such as the Summer House, Monument, Cloister, Column and Pergola, improving security, provision of a full-time gardener, new toilet facilities and reintroduction of some of the original features in the garden such as the bronze ‘Lululaund’ plaque and rose pillars.

So how can you help? Residents, visitors to the garden, local schools - in fact anyone with ideas - is being invited to comment on the proposals.

Full details of the proposals will be on display at the Bushey Museum and Art Gallery (Rudolph Road, Bushey) from Thursday 10 August where you can see the proposals in detail and fill in a questionnaire.  The Museum is open Thursday to Sunday 11am to 4pm and the display will be on show until the end of September.

A consultation leaflet and questionnaire can also be posted out to you. To receive one please contact Parks and Amenities on Freephone 0800 731 1810 or email parks.consultation@hertsmere.gov.uk.
