A representative from Akita Rescue and Welfare charity, were presented with a donation of £100 from the Mayor.

The donation came as part of the Companion Dog Show, which was held at the King George Recreation Ground in Bushey on Saturday 15 July 2006 as part of the Bushey festival.

Shaz Setoudeh, who organised the event, said: “The show was a great success with over 200 dog lovers coming along to watch or take part in the competition. The show wouldn’t happen without Maureen, a representative from the Akita Rescue and Welfare charity, and I am delighted the council was able to give something back to the charity she represents.”

Maureen Price, from Akita Rescue and Welfare, said: “We have been holding the dog show for the last six years as part of the Bushey festival. It’s a great event and always brings in lots of dog lovers and their families. As well as breed classes we have novelty classes, which include categories such as handsomest dog.

"This year Hertsmere Borough Council donated £100 to Akita Rescue and Welfare, which we are extremely grateful to receive. We are a registered charity that advise owners, rescue, re-homing and retrain Akitas. We rely on donations and volunteers, and I'd like to thank the council for their continued support."
