Did you enjoy your visit today? That's the question from Hertsmere Borough Council as they encourage more people to visit our parks as the hot weather looks set to return.
The Council is supporting the Love Parks Week, which takes place between 18 and 25 June – and highlighting that a park is on their doorstep.
In addition, the Parks Department is encouraging local residents to comment on the quality of their parks and green spaces as part of a nationwide initiative ‘Million Voices’.
Fiona Leadley, Assistant Landscape Officer, said: "We are getting involved in a number of schemes to promote our parks across the Borough. Love Parks Week is all about getting outside and discovering what our parks have to offer and ‘Million Voices’ aims to encourage residents to feedback their views so that we can continue to make our open spaces even more inviting."
‘Million Voices’ is run by GreenSTAT is an online database that gives local residents the opportunity to comment on the quality of their local parks and open spaces, and how well they feel they are being managed and maintained. The survey then feeds back to the Council about the people who visit the parks and how they might encourage new visitors.
"We are enormously proud of the parks in the Borough and our Green Flag awards confirms we have some of the finest in the country. However, we are always looking at ways we can continue to improve our parks, so this independent survey is ideal," adds Fiona.
“I would encourage people to go out and see what our parks have to offer this weekend when the hot weather returns. All our parks are different - with lakes, play areas, scenic walks and other leisure facilities for all ages!"
Posters and stickers promoting GreenSTAT’s initiative and how you can feedback your views on our parks will be placed in all the Borough's parks.
Hertsmere is the only Council in Hertfordshire to achieve this standard for more than one of its parks. This is the seventh consecutive year that King George Recreation Ground has been awarded a Green Flag and the fourth year in succession that Oakmere Park has been received this accolade.
