For the first time, a food business in Borehamwood has been awarded the highest score for its food hygiene standards.
Environmental Health awarded KFC in Shenley Road an excellent five star rating when the relatively new premise was inspected earlier in July as part of the council's scores on the doors scheme. Environmental Health Officers found food hygiene standards to be very high. This is the first five star rating given to a premise in Borehamwood since the scheme started in April 2006.
The scores on the doors scheme aims to improve food hygiene standards in local restaurants, pubs, cafes, takeaways and other food businesses across the borough. The ratings are uploaded on this website on a monthly basis to help drive standards up and give members of the public a more informed choice about where to eat based on food hygiene standards and other related issues.
Chris Gascoine, Chief Environmental Health Officer, said: "At the time of inspection, we found excellent hygiene conditions at KFC in Borehamwood. There was a high standard of compliance with food legislation and we were very satisfied with the competence of the management."
Councillor Jean Heywood, Environment Portfolio Holder with responsibility for environmental health, said: "The scores on the doors initiative helps drive food hygiene standards up in food businesses across the borough which is only good news for members of the public.
"Publicising the results encourages those who score badly to improve their standards."
The council encourages healthy eating and recommends that takeaways should be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.
