Get £50 cashback on real nappies

Hertsmere residents can claim up to £50 if they choose to use real nappies instead of disposable ones.

On average, a baby will get through 4,500 disposable nappies which costs approximately £700.  And every year, almost three billion used disposable nappies are sent to landfill in the UK, which equates to eight million a day and costs the nation £40m in waste management.

Councils across the county, in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council, offer a real nappy cashback scheme in order to discourage the use of disposable nappies.  People using real nappies or a nappy laundering service need to complete a coupon in order to claim any money back through the scheme.

Gemma Godfrey, Hertsmere Borough Council's Recycling Officer, said: "It's national Real Nappy Week next week so it's a great time to make the switch and stop using disposable nappies.

"Reusable nappies are, in comparison, more environmentally sound than disposable nappies as they are made from cloth and can be used over and over again.  If you use real nappies, less waste will be sent to landfill and they are also generally cheaper than using disposables."
