Get cozy for winter

It may still be summer, but residents in Hertsmere will soon be getting a prompt through the post to see if they could benefit from home insulation.

A third of all heat loss from an un-insulated house is through the walls which means around £115 year is wasted on heating bills.

But if your home was built after 1920, the chances are there’s something you can do to reduce that heat loss dramatically, keep your home warmer in the winter months and save some cash.

Cllr Jean Heywood, portfolio holder for the environment, explained: "There are a number of grants and specials offers available to help people. It may feel too soon to start thinking about the colder weather but if you act now, it could really make a difference to you this winter.

“Not only can you benefit from being more warm and comfortable in your home, you can also save money on bills and help the environment as well."

Eligible Hertsmere residents can get cavity wall insulation for just £99 (saving you around £400 on the cost of installation), subject to a technical survey under the Herts and Essex Energy Partnership (HEEP). If you receive a qualifying benefit you could even get your insulation free of charge. Insulating cavity walls is straight forward and only takes about three hours.

HEEP is a government-funded organisation and residents can contact their qualified advisors to find out the best possible deal, depending on their individual circumstances.
