Keeping Bushey tidy

Streets in Bushey will benefit from a tidy up tomorrow, Friday 26 September, courtesy of a local company, Smiths Detection.
The community clean-up, organised by the company and supported by Hertsmere Borough Council, forms part of the Keep Britain Tidy 'Big Tidy Up' campaign which encourages schools, businesses and other groups to get involved in their communities and look after local areas.
A group of around 15 staff will take to the local streets near to their offices in Bushey including Friars Way, Robin Hood Drive, Bushey Mill Lane and Park Avenue as well as local parks to litter pick. Hertsmere Borough Council is providing high visibility waistcoats, gloves, litter pickers and bags.
Councillor Jean Heywood, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: "The Big Tidy Up campaign is a brilliant opportunity for local people to engage with their community and help raise awareness of the problem of litter. It's wonderful that a local business is getting involved.
"Litter can be a real eyesore and sometimes it can be difficult to collect it from all the hotspots all the time, as sadly people can be irresponsible and not dispose of it properly. A big thanks goes to the company."
Lita Bird, Director of Human Resources at Smiths Detection, said: "We have always worked closely with the local community in Park Avenue and neighbouring roads and we are delighted to be able to play our part in maintaining this area as a good place to live and work."
Smiths Detection provides products to detect and identify chemical and biological material and other dangerous or illegal objects, worldwide.
