Liam, aged eight, from Borehamwood, won the bike after entering a free prize draw at the council's Play Day earlier in August. The competition was organised by Environmental Health officers who were promoting food safety, sun safety and raising awareness of the recent changes in the law in relation to public places becoming smokefree.

Funding for the competition, which attracted more than 200 entries, was provided by Smokefree Hertfordshire, of which Hertsmere Borough Council is a founder member. Additional funding and support was generously provided by Halfords, in Borehamwood, who kindly gave Liam some lights for his new bike.

The Mayor of Hertsmere, Councillor Martin Saunders, and the Deputy Manager of Halfords in Borehamwood, Paul Shannon, presented Liam with his new bike.

Liam said: "I've been really excited about winning and choosing a new bike and can't wait to take it out for a ride. I love bikes and have had one since I was about three."
