Recycling at flats continues
17-Mar-2010 10:16:19
Recycling facilities at flats are continuing to improve across Hertsmere.
Communal bins for plastic bottles and cans as well as paper have been installed at:
Borehamwood
- Queens Court, Kings Court and Merton Court in Bennington Drive
Bushey
- Wells Field
- Mayfield Court, London Road
Radlett
- Fairfield Close
- Orchard Close
- Phillimore Place
Shenley
- Forge flats (numbers 16-30 London Road)
- Birchwood, Newcome Road
Information has been passed to residents and the bins are labelled with what can go in. Paper will be collected one week and plastic bottles and cans will be collected the next week and so on. Normal waste that cannot be recycled will continue to be collected from communal bins on a weekly basis.
Residents will also be able to recycle glass bottles and jars and a greater range of plastics when a new scheme starts in the autumn.
Councillor Jean Heywood, Environment Portfolio Holder, said: "The roll out of recycling facilities at flats is going well and I would like to thank residents for getting on board with the scheme and helping us divert more waste from landfill.
"We will continue to work with local housing associations, management organisations and residents to help make recycling at flats easier."
Full details of the scheme will be delivered to homes as and when the scheme rolls out to each block so look out for information dropping on your doormat. But if you live in a flat and want to get involved please contact the council on 020 8207 7480 or email street.scene@hertsmere.gov.uk
