Five young winners have helped to save the planet this summer.

Twins Leah and Jake Valins, from Radlett, let their imaginations run riot and scooped top prize in our schools competition when they created something new from something old. They collected their unwanted rubbish and put it to good use by making a robot and an engine. They shared a goody bag full of energy saving and recycled items such as a water powered calculator, wind-up torch and a stationery set made from elephant poo!
In addition, three youngsters from across the borough each won a book - 'Yes! I can help save the planet' – when they took part in competitions.
David Summers (top right), from Borehamwood, won the competition at the Borehamwood families day when he guessed the number of bottles and cans in a clear plastic bag.
Lenox Wilcox (bottom right), from Potters Bar, won at the town’s Community Fun Day by guessing what two mystery blocks where made out of (money and plastic bottles) while Abbygale Daniels (bottom left), also from Potters Bar, won her book at the national play day held in Oakmere Park in August by correctly guessing how many two litre fizzy drinks bottles it takes to make one adult fleece jacket. The answer is 25!
