Aberford Park

Aberford Road/Brook Road. [A description of the park's facilities.]

Aberford Park

Aberford Park is in the centre of Borehamwood along Brook Road.  The first part of the park was purchased in 1888 and in total the land cost £3,257 to acquire.  The main feature of the park is the lake system which functions by collecting all the surface water from the local area.  The lakes were reshaped and cleared of silt during 1999, the banks planted and fountains installed.  The lakes now form home to many varieties of water foul and wildlife.

The V Shape tree avenue leading to Croxdale Road was planted by local school children with each tree representing a school in Borehamwood.

Play and sports areas

Aberford Park offers a wide range of play and sport activities for all ages.

There are two children's play areas in the park, along with a skatepark and 'extreme' sport area. The main area is fully equipped with a large range of equipment for the junior age range (under 12s).  The 'extreme' sport areais suitable for children over the age of 12 and includes a Skysurf, Rodeoboard and climbing boulder.  There is also a smaller toddler play are behind the Community Centre.

A multi-sports court area is located near the lake and is marked out for street hockey and basketball.  Regular graffiti projects are carried out on the court walls organised by Hertsmere's Youth and Projects Officer.

There is a car park by the Community Centre which can be accessed from Aberford Road.

Aberford Park is often used as a backing set for television programmes, such as EastEnders and Grange Hill.

This park is one of the parks covered by the Borehamwood Four Parks Friends Association

In 2005, the Council received funding from Sport England, Living Spaces and the Police Authority for an exciting new area called 'the Action Zone' consisting of the skatepark, extreme sports area and earth sculptures.  An 'Action Zone Leader' is on-site in the park at key times of the day to provide a friendly face in the park, mobile first aid facilities, litter picking and equipment inspection.
