Skateparks in Hertsmere

Details of skatepark facilities in the Borough

We have two fantastic skateparks in Hertsmere at Aberford Park in Borehamwood and next to the Furzefield Leisure Centre in Potters Bar, as well as a set of mobile ramps called the 'Mobile Action Zone' which can be taken around the Borough.  All three facilities are suitable for skateboarders, BMXers and in-line skaters and were developed in consultation with young people in Hertsmere.

The Borehamwood Action Zone offers:

  • Quarter pipes (various)
  • Flat Banks (various)
  • Pyramid
  • Fun Box/Planter
  • Grind Boxes
  • Teen Shelter
  • Seating
  • Cycle racks
  • CCTV
  • Action Zone Leader
  • Car parking
  • Additional play facilities including 'extreme' sports area, junior and toddler play areas

The park is informally supervised by an Action Zone Leader at key times of the season providing an adult presence in the park, mobile first aid, litter picking and consulting young people.

The skatepark is located in Aberford Park, just off Aberford Road and Brook Road, Borehamwood, WD6 1PL.  Link to Aberford Park page.

The skatepark was funded by Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund, Hertsmere Borough Council, Living Spaces and the Police Authority.

The Potters Bar skatepark offers:

  • Volcano
  • 'Snake' bend
  • Grind Boxes
  • Flat Banks (various)
  • 1.2-1.6m bowl (new feature from April 2009)
  • Leisure Centre with toilet and refreshment facilities*
  • Seating
  • Cycle racks
  • CCTV
  • Car parking
  • Additional play facilities including  junior and toddler play areas

*A Skater ID Card is needed for access to the toilets and changing facilities at the Furzefield Leisure Centre (applications available from reception at the leisure centre).

The skatepark is located next the Furzefield Leisure Centre in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, EN6 3BW.  Link to Furzefield page.

The skatepark was funded by Hertsmere Borough Council, Living Spaces, Canada Life, the Potters Bar Rotary Club, Tomer Allen-Price Memorial Fund and Potters Bar Carnival.

Mobile Skatepark

The Mobile Action Zone is a set of ramps which are transported in trailer and are very versatile.  Equipment includes a Quarter Pipe, Flat Board and Grind Rail.  The Mobile Action Zone can be hired to local Parish Councils, schools and clubs for a three-hour period.  For further details please contact Shaz Setoudeh, Events Officer, on 020 8207 7568.

Please note, skateboarding, BMX-ing and in-line skating are extreme sports and users are advised to wear appropriate protective clothing when using the skate facilities.
