Collections

Your waste and recycling collections explained.

Hertsmere makes collections from your properties on the same day every week and we encourage everyone to recycle as much of their waste as possible.

Every house should have a black bin, green bin, brown bin/black box and a blue box.

Your collections take place as follows:

  • On Week 1 we will collect your black bin and blue box.
  • On Week 2 (the same day the following week) we will collect your green bin and brown bin/black box.

  Week1&2_from_Jan2011

And so it goes on alternating each week between black bin and blue box collections, and green bin and brown bin/black box collections the following week.

What goes in each bin/box?

  1. Your black bin is for refuse you cannot recycle.*
  2. Your brown bin is for glass, cartons, cans and plastic.
  3. Your green bin is for garden waste, food and cardboard.
  4. Your blue box is for newspapers and magazines.

What week are we on?

Look at the current collection calendar to find out if it's a Week 1 or a Week 2 collection.

What day is my collection?

To find out what day of the week your collections will take place please contact us.

* Please note, plasterboard is not accepted at any landfill sites and therefore this cannot be put in your black bin. There are some Household Waste Recycling Centres that will accept it, including:

  • Cranborne Road, Potters Bar

The Allum Lane and Wiggenhall Depot sites do not accept it.
