Affordable Housing Development

Details of the Council's Affordable Housing Developments within the borough.

There is a shortage of affordable housing in Hertsmere, with demand outstripping supply, therefore working with delivery partners to provide housing which people can access is a priority for the council.

The council works alongside Registered Social Landlords (Housing Associations) and private developers to provide quality affordable housing to all sections of the community ensuring size and type of dwellings meet with people’s requirements.

Affordable Housing is provided in the following ways:

Section 106 Planning Policy agreements, where the council will seek provision of 35% to be for affordable housing on residential sites of 15 or more properties.
Development of Council land & sites
Sites developed by Housing Associations

The council’s housing development team help to secure Social Housing Grant funding through The Homes & Communities Agency to assist Housing Associations in financing affordable housing schemes through the borough. . The Homes & Communities Agency is a Government organisation that funds housing associations and regeneration.

This year the council has been working hard with Housing Associations, developers and The Homes & Communities Agency to provide more affordable housing in the borough, which during the financial climate is in demand more than ever. So far 113 new affordable homes have been completed. This includes homes for social rent, shared ownership properties and new build home buy.
