Who are play rangers?

We are trained, police checked playworkers who bring equipment and encourage children to make more use of parks and open spaces in their communities.  This can include sports, games, natural play, den building and arts and crafts.  We listen to what the children want to do and help them achieve it.

What do play rangers do?

We aim to provide challenges with lots of fun outdoors in all weathers.  Our presence can provide children and young people with safe places to play and hang out.  We can also provide support to those in need.

We also help other people understand that children have the right to use the parks.  We help make sure the park is well looked after and safe for children and young people.

Children and young people are encouraged to use the sessions in the way they choose with freely chosen, self directed play.

When do play rangers work?

Play rangers work with children and young people in their leisure time during the school holidays.  They may visit an area twice or three times a week including an early evening session.

The sessions operate an 'open access' principle, which means that children are free to come and go as they please.  They sign themselves in and out providing an emergency contact number

  • PLEASE NOTE UNDER 8s MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
  • CHILDREN SHOULD DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR OUTDOOR PLAY.
