Take shelter!

Innovative shelters are now striking additions in three local parks.

The unique structures have been installed at The Moatfield in Bushey, Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett and Furzefield in Potters Bar as part of a project to enhance parks and open spaces in Hertsmere.

Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "I think the shelters look great!  They are all different and designed to get people of all ages to use them – either sheltering under them, climbing over them or sitting on them.

“When I visited the one at Furzefield in Potters Bar, a local resident was already making the most of it and sitting in the sun, playing with his dog.

“I hope all park users will appreciate them and see them as welcome additions to each park."

They are made from steel, wood and other materials and designed to be as vandal-proof as possible.  Each one cost around £20,000 which included consultation, design and construction and have been funded by the Big Lottery Fund and a contribution from Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership.  Arts and environment organisation Green Heart Partnership (GHP) and design company Superblue managed the project on behalf of the council.
