Potters Bar resident to ride the Olympic rapids

The winner of our competition to win white water rafting tickets at the Olympic venue has been selected… and the lucky resident is Simon Harrison from Potters Bar.
Congratulations go to Simon who has won four tickets to ride the rapids at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross, purpose-built for the canoe slalom events at the 2012 Olympic Games.
Simon said: "I'm absolutely over the moon to win the tickets. When you enter a competition like this you don’t really expect to win but someone has to.
"I'm planning on taking my wife - if she dares - and a couple of friends. I'm very excited about going to the centre and riding the rapids, I can’t wait!"
The Lee Valley White Water Centre is the only brand new Olympic venue open to the public to enjoy in advance – it closes to the public on 16 October. Simon Ricketts, Manager at the centre, said: "Nerves are definitely put to the test on the Olympic course – you have to navigate 300 metres of obstacles, drops, waves and fast-flowing white water. Simon is guaranteed an exhilarating day."
Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: "The Olympic Games are less than a year away and we are lucky in Hertsmere to be close to the action.
"I'd like to thank everyone who entered the competition and hope Simon has a great time. We will be running another competition to win tickets to see various sports at the Olympics next year so they’ll be more chances to win coming soon."
