Developing a centre for children's activities, creating play rangers, homework classes at local libraries and the development of a special pass to improve access into local leisure centres. These are just a few of the innovations the council is working towards.
Hertsmere's new Children and Young People's Plan sets out its vision to improve services for children and young people over the next three years.
It has been developed jointly with a wide range of local community organisations including Hertsmere Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Connexions, Hertsmere Leisure Trust and Hertfordshire Constabulary, all working together through the area's newly established Children's Trust Partnership.
Its principal aim is to improve services for children and young people through:
- Improving health
- Making a positive contribution
- Enjoying and achieving
- Staying safe
- Achieving economic wellbeing
These are the five outcomes detailed within Every Child Matters (external link), a national strategy aimed at improving the co-ordination and development of children's services.
Councillor Brenda Batten, portfolio holder for Cultural Services and Health, said: "I am delighted that we have played such a prominent role in developing a document that will have such a major impact in improving services for children and young people. Given the positive partnership work already undertaken I am confident that once implemented the plan will have huge success in improving the quality of life for children and young people across Hertsmere."
