Pupils visit the gunners

Pupils from Falconers school in Bushey were given a tour of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium, thanks to a scheme run in partnership with Hertsmere Borough Council.

The school participates in the Arsenal’s community double club, where pupils take part in 45 minutes of literacy and 45 minutes of football.

Their visit, at the end of May, took in the pitch side, the changing rooms and the directors box and was supported by PE teacher Dan Gaze who used the trip as a reward for good behaviour and achievement in lessons.

Cllr Brenda Batten, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and health, explained: "When the council gave permission for Arsenal to build its training ground in Hertsmere, we set up an agreement with them whereby the club must deliver some community projects which benefit local people. The double club is part of this and we hope those who attended enjoyed the experience."

Dan added: "Arsenal double club has been a great success within Falconer School. It really has helped pupils engage in their English, develop the confidence to produce good work and to be proud of it.  Football-wise the coaches, John and Davis have been fantastic with our pupils showing them new skills and giving them once in a lifetime opportunities. Pupils can't wait to take part and one even said that the visit to the ground was the best day of his life, so it really is worthwhile."
